Ather drops battery of upcoming Rizta scooter from 40 feet height. Here's what happened



In an unusual experiment, Bengaluru-based EV manufacturer Ather Energy tested its electric scooter’s battery to test by dropping it from 40 feet height.

Ather Energy decided to follow the trend of drop tests commonly done for smartphones and tested the toughness of their e-scooter batteries to simulate real-world accidents. The entire process was documented in a video shared by Swapnil Jain, co-founder of the company.

“Shreyas loves destroying batteries and he comes up with his own crazy ways of testing them. Last time he was seen baking his battery eating ice-cream. This time he saw a crane and got excited and wanted to test strength of our batteries. So he decided to drop it from 40 feet. Aluminium casings on the battery significantly enhances Safety and thermal performance of the batteries. Imagine what would happen if the battery was not made of metal! Using metal where it matters, making the batteries Rock Solid,” Swapnil wrote in a post on X along with the video.

The video revealed that the Ather battery pack remained relatively undamaged after being dropped from a height of 40 feet using a crane. It is worth noting that these batteries will be used in the upcoming Ather Rizta family scooter. The company is preparing to introduce a more practical and family-oriented electric scooter following the success of its performance-oriented 450 series. The Rizta electric scooter, set to debut on April 6, features a larger seat, claimed to be the largest in its segment.

While further details about the upcoming model have been kept under wraps, the manufacturer has been teasing the EV for some time now. As part of a marketing campaign, Ather Energy recently partnered with stand-up comic Anubhav Singh Bassi, who shared a camouflaged version of the scooter on his social media handle.The drop test experiment showcased the durability and safety of Ather Energy’s battery pack, with the aluminum casings playing a significant role in enhancing safety and thermal performance. This experiment obviously has also added to the anticipation surrounding the launch of the Ather Rizta family scooter, which aims to cater to the practical needs of Indian families.
