Tobermory, Bungo, Madame Cholet and Orinoco will make a spectacular comeback to encourage businesses and schools to get involved in going “One Step Greener”.

They will feature in government-backed social media videos to show Brits how they can help save the planet with small steps — as The Sun has championed in our Green Team campaign.

Last night, Great Uncle Bulgaria told The Sun: “If we all behave like Wombles, we can make a difference to the health of our country and our planet.”

In 2014, the Wombles were voted among the top BBC TV children’s characters of all-time.

They will urge the nation to “make use of bad rubbish” with beach cleans, tree planting and recycling — alongside slashing food waste and growing our own food in the garden.

The PM wants world leaders at the landmark summit in Glasgow in November to agree to tough new policies to stop the world warming by 1.5C.

But a doom-laden report from Chatham House boffins warns him today there is just a one per cent chance of keeping it below that level to prevent the worst effects of climate change.

There is “no specific threat” of terrorist attacks to Cop26, says Louise Skelton, head of armed policing in Scotland
