Was Bitcoin’s rise predicted more than 20 years ago in the beloved video game Final Fantasy III?

A symbol which looks suspiciously like the Bitcoin logo has been spotted in a game made more than 20 years ago.

The icon was seen in a screenshot from Final Fantasy III, which is widely considering to be one of the best games of all time and was released in 1994.

It has sparked debate (and jokes) on Reddit after being posted under the headline: ‘When your favourite game hinted that you should have bought bitcoin before it even existed in 1994.’

The strange symbol was spotted at the end of a bed occupied by the character Celes, who falls asleep for a year after a cataclysm which turns the world into a nightmarish apocalyptic dystopia.

She then awakens in a bed with the Bitcoin logo on the end of it, before racing out to catch fish with her bare hands to save the life of a slightly creepy bloke who’s been watching over her as she slumbered.

‘This kind of stuff is why I think Bitcoin was created by a super AI in the future that sends information into the past via quantum entanglement,’ one Reddit user speculated.

‘You have found Satoshi Nakamoto,’ another person added, referring to the shadowy creator of Bitcoin.

Sadly, this being the internet, another person had a predictable response to seeing an icon resembling the Bitcoin logo at the end of a virtual woman’s bed.

‘Does she have any nudes?’ he asked,

Bitcoin was released in 2009, some 15 years after Final Fantasy III (known as Final Fantasy VI in Japan) was produced for the Super Nintendo.
