VA Museum of Transportation hosts STEAM Day – WDBJ7

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) — More than 1,000 students from nearly two dozen school systems checked out the Virginia Museum of Transportation in Roanoke Friday as part of STEAM Day.

The Virginia Department of Transportation and Virginia Tech Engineering were among the vendors on hand to teach students about the fields of science, technology, engineering, arts, and math.

Classes also got to check out all the exhibits and even Carilion’s medical helicopter: Lifeguard.

“We have trains, planes, and automobiles – our predominant collections – and each of those had to have a lot of science, mathematics, engineering, technology, and also someone with the artistic abilities, so the arts are in there in order to design those items,” said Courtney Plaster, the Transportation Museum’s Education Director.

The Taubman Museum of Art, the Science Museum of Western Virginia, and Radford University Carilion also hosted students as part of STEAM Day.
