UK campsites are adding hundreds more pitches due to soaring holiday demand – here are some of the best deals

CAMPSITES across the UK are seeing such a surge in demand for holidays this year that they are desperately adding more pitches.

A booking boom for staycations has seen prices jump as availability runs out following the government announcement that group trips can resume from May.

Camping website Pitchup.com has added 130 more sites since the start of the year due to demand, with more than 2,500 still available.

The lockdown dates allow holidays to resume from April 12, but only with your own household and if at self-catered accommodation.

This means some campsites are unable to open until May 17, due to shared facilities such as shower and toilet blocks, leading to thousands disappointed at missing the Easter break.

Despite this Dan Yates, founder of Pitchup.com who has daily bookings as high as 6,500, previously said that this summer will see the same demand as last summer, but with enough availability.

He explained: “It looks like this summer will again be mostly domestic and particularly outdoor holidays.”

“Whilst many cottage companies may have sold out, many people seem to forget that outdoor accommodation accounts for 65 per cent of UK non-serviced bed spaces – of which there are still plenty.

“A quick search on our site shows there are currently 791 locations available in England for the week of July 31 to August 7.”

James Hetherington, Accommodation Manager at Lee Valley Regional Park in Enfield, North London, told MyLondon: “Following the Government announcement on Monday our campsites have seen a huge rise in demand.
