UCLA football 'about 98 percent' vaccinated – Press Enterprise – California News Times

Los Angeles — UCLA football coach Chip Kelly said “about 98 percent” of the roster was vaccinated.

NS The University of California system All students and staff must be vaccinated against COVID-19 to return to campus in the fall semester.

According to Kelly, some members of the program will apply for an exemption to participate in classes and football activities without being vaccinated. He added that some people have decided not to vaccinate because of medical or religious beliefs.

“If they apply for an exemption and the exemption is passed, they are OK (to participate),” Kelly said. “If the exemption is denied, they must be vaccinated.”

UCLA has actively collaborated and provided resources with players, in addition to conferences and discussions on vaccines.

According to Kelly, Bruins held its first team meeting indoors on Thursday within 504 days. This is after most meetings have been held outdoors or in small groups for the past year.

“Last year, what I experienced just to be able to play these seven games was extraordinary,” said the coach. “We must thank our government and doctors for telling us what we have experienced.”

Kelly and his staff continue to call attention to the program, despite the high proportion of vaccinated athletes.

“It’s good to get back to some sort of normal state,” Kelly said. “But I also warn about this delta variant. Even if you’re vaccinated, you need to be very vigilant about what’s happening right now just because you’re not out of the forest.”

Kelly spoke directly with a local reporter for the first time in over a year, while the player’s media availability remained virtual.
