Tyson Fury's deadline for Anthony Joshua fight passes without announcement

Tyson Fury’s self-imposed deadline to reach an agreement with Anthony Joshua has passed without confirmation the heavyweight mega-fight will take place.

Fury and Joshua signed a two-fight contract last month without a venue or date having been secured.

Promoter Eddie Hearn then embarked on a six-country, four-continent world tour, returning with four offers which were presented to the world champions on Sunday.

Both Fury and Joshua were confident a deal would be struck this week but Fury warned he would walk away from the fight if it was not agreed by yesterday.

“If I don’t hear anything by Tuesday, I’m just going to move on because it’s been a long time in the making,” Fury told Behind the Gloves .

‘It was June last year when I did that video when I said I had agreed terms with Joshua. Like we both agreed to fight each other, but I’ve got to fight Wilder first. That was a year ago.”

Fury’s deadline was the second he had imposed having previously set one for last Friday for offers to be produced.

And despite his threat, the undefeated champion added: “There are a few offers on the table from a few different countries which is good news.

“I’ve always been sceptical but I’m told there are a few offers from some major players.

“I think it will 100 per cent happen – a million per cent happen – and I think we’ll know in the next couple of days the who, the what and the when.

“I’m very excited to get this fight and make it happen; I want the fight and he wants the fight. We’re going to lay it all on the line for the fans.

“It’s two heavyweight champions from Britain going head to head in a mammoth, mammoth fight.”

Saudi Arabia, which hosted Joshua’s revenge mission against Andy Ruiz Jr in 2019 remains the favourite to host the fight with July 24 touted as a potential date.

The second instalment would then likely take place in Cardiff in November or December.
