Travel tech co Pickyourtrail raises Rs 21 crores in Series A funds

CHENNAI: Chennai-based travel-technology start-up Pickyoutrail that helps travellers plan and book curated, multi-country vacations online has raised Rs 21 crores in a series A-round of funding led by Kumar Vembu, CEO of GoFrugal, Shyam Sekhar, Founder of iThought and joined by Rajagopal Subramanian, CIO, Entrust and Girish Mathrubootham, CEO Freshworks.

The fresh funds would be deployed towards product innovation, scaling up the company’s proprietary technology platform, expansion of its technical team and marketing. Started in 2014, Pickyoutrail uses its unique matching algorithms and price comparison engine to help travellers create customised tour packages at competitive online prices.

Srinath Shankar, co-founder of Pickyourtrail said, “Our end goal is to make Pickyourtrail synonymous with customized international vacations and this round is a great stepping stone in that direction.”

Pickyourtrail currently covers over 200 cities across the globe and only caters to vacations outside India. Its proprietary algorithm takes into account 40 factors like duration, travel time, ratings etc to build personalised itineraries that travellers can further customise & book.

The travel and tourism segment is seeing a shift to customised travel planning specifically amongst young, millennial vacationers who have “more money than time,” according to Co-Founder Hari Ganapathy. He said that the company’s routing algorithm, personalisation algorithm and price discovery algorithms help it deliver its curated holiday experiences.

One of the lead investors in this round Kumar Vembu, CEO, GoFrugal said “Pickyourtrail is one of the most interesting brands that I have personally come across in recent times. There is a massive opportunity in the experience economy and am excited to be partnering with them in creating a global vacation planning product”
