02.30am UPDATE: Neymar urged to re-join Barcelona because of Lionel Messi

Neymar leaving Paris Saint-Germain and returning to Barcelona would be “perfect” because Lionel Messi is the only player who can keep the Brazilian in check, according to Liverpool icon Steve Nicol.

This week, Spanish media claimed that he had personally told PSG owner Nasser Al-Khaleifi that he did not want to stay in Paris.

According to Mundo Deportivo, he said he didn’t want to stay and wanted to go back to Barcelona, and that he regretted leaving in the first place. This apparently led Lionel Messi to tell Barcelona chiefs that he wanted Neymar signed instead of Antoine Griezmann.

Speaking on ESPN FC, Nicol explained why this would be the right move for all involved.

“I think for Neymar it would be perfect,” he said. “It seems to be that the only place he can be the player we think he can be is Barcelona.

“That’s because of Messi, it seems like Messi is the only guy who can keep this guy in check.

01:30 UPDATE: Pogba gets ‘raw deal’

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is unfairly criticised, according to Danny Higginbotham.

Higginbotham told TalkSPORT of the midfielder, who could join Real Madrid or Juventus this summer: “At times I think he’s probably given too much negativity.

“Just look at the top teams in the Premier League at the moment – when you talk about Liverpool it’s about the collective, you talk about Mane, Firmnio and Salah, when you talk about Manchester City you talk about De Bruyne, both [David and Bernado Silva], Sterling and Aguero, and Tottenham the likes of Kane, Alli, Eriksen and Son.

“Whereas with Manchester United, when something goes wrong, it’s Paul Pogba’s fault.

“That’s the frustration, because you look at the way he plays and at some points he’s given a raw deal. I agree 100 per cent with a lot of fans about what he’s done at the weekend, it doesn’t help him or endear him to the United supporters.

“But I just think he has been looked at so many times as a negative, when – it doesn’t matter who you are, maybe apart from Messi and Ronaldo – you can’t do it on your own. It’s a simple as that.”

23:30 UPDATE: Gerrard issued transfer order

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has been told to focus on signing a left-back this summer.

The Gers have recruited five players already ahead of the 2019-20 season in Jordan Jones, Jake Hastie, Greg Stewart and Steven Davis and Sheyi Ojo.

Kris Boyd told Sky Sports: “There’s no doubt Rangers need a left-back. The recruitment last summer wasn’t good enough.

“They signed a couple of players off the back of playing against them in the Europa League. Right away they didn’t look as if they were comfortable.

“It’s one thing playing in front of two or three thousand fans to then playing in front of 51,000 fans. It’s a big, big jump. I felt as if a few of them froze last season.

“[Eros] Grezda we never really saw. [Borna] Barisic, we never really saw, he was always in and out and injured. There’s no doubt that Rangers need a left-back, that’s the top priority this summer.”

22:00 UPDATE: Lewa on Leroy

Robert Lewandowski has dropped a transfer bombshell.

The Bayern Munich striker has revealed that his colleagues are already looking forward to Manchester City’s Leroy Sane joining the club.

“Bayern’s German players are now very much looking forward to Sane’s signing, but we have to wait and see what is going on,” said Lewandowski.

“[Robbern and Ribery] are legends, of course their departure is sad. But Bayern will also sign more and better replacements.

“I don’t think he’d go to Man City, I don’t think they’d want him,” Durham. “I don’t think Liverpool would want him.

“But I do think a side like Manchester United should be in for Neymar.”

“I still think that Antoine Griezmann would be a fantastic addition to Liverpool,” Burley said. “Bearing in mind how well they did last year and how close they came to Manchester City.

15:30 UPDATE: Aubameyang to Man Utd

Manchester United would have to offer at least £100million to get Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, says Jason Cundy.

Cundy was working alongside talkSPORT presenter Andy Goldstein on Monday night.

Cundy says that would not be enough money for Arsenal to let go their top scorer from last season.
