Train cars jump the rails, forcing closure of Indiana 26 west of U.S. 231 – Journal & Courier

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Train cars came off of the rail on the tracks on Indiana 26 west of U.S. 231 late Friday morning, forcing the closure of the state highway west of West Lafayette, according to the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office published an alert about 12:30 p.m. Friday telling motorists that the road will be closed for several hours.

Scanner traffic indicated that the schools were notified to adjust bus routes, and they were working on getting signs out on the east and west side of the blocked highway to alert drivers of the problem.

The tracks are near the Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories.
