‘Token sum not bribe, just stipend to cover convoy’s expenses’ – Malaysiakini

A considerate offer to help party members has been maliciously misrepresented, said Shah Alam PKR Youth deputy chief Muhamad Idris.

This came after Selangor PKR Youth chief Najwan Halimi reminded party members that giving tokens to encourage them to participate in programmes is not part of the party’s culture.

Najwan had been commenting on claims that the opening ceremony of the Selangor PKR Youth annual general meeting tomorrow would be marred by the practice of giving “tokens” to members present.

“Two separate events at different locations and times have been mixed up. We have successfully gathered 60 Shah Alam PKR Youth members to participate in a Merdeka convoy programme.”

“Unfortunately we received malicious slander after offering to help by giving a RM20 token sum to members who joined the convoy to cover their petrol and food.”

“We’re very disappointed,” said Idris in a statement tonight.

The statement was forwarded to Malaysiakini by PKR Youth deputy chief Muhammad Hilman Idham.

Idris said the convoy and the AGM had been deliberately mixed up.

He took a swipe at Najwan, saying that the Kota Anggerik assemblyperson had not considered the expenses of those attending the functions.

“As such, Shah Alam Youth Chief SP Sarawanan and I have decided not to continue this convoy programme because of the unprofessional attitude of some irresponsible parties,” said Idris.
