TikTok launches anti-bullying feature which lets users filter comments

The wildly popular app TikTok has launched a new ‘safety feature’ which will help users protect themselves from bullies.

It has rolled out a new feature which allows people to make a list of words they’d like to be filtered from their comments.

So, for instance, if you’re worried about everyone mocking your weight, you could set up a filter which automatically removes potentially troublesome terms like ‘fat’ or ‘land whale’.

TikTok has well over 500 million users around the world and is becoming a big-hitter to rival Facebook or Instagram.

It wrote: ‘From today, TikTok is launching a new safety feature available for all its users in the UK that will allow them to self-define keywords they would like to filter from their comment section, empowering them to manage their online presence in a wise and safe way.

‘The new feature ‘Filter Comments’, lets users filter words they would like to hide from their comment section on top of the ability to decide on who can comment on their videos, giving them more control over their TikTok’s online presence.

‘Users can add as many words as they want (up 30 characters) and change the words according to their preference or when they feel necessary.’

TikTokkers will be able to go into the ‘privacy and safety’ settings to set up the censor list.

It’s also possible to decide who follows your account or make it totally private.

TikTok also lets you decide who will see your videos, send comments, react to content or duet with you.
