Thousands could see Universal Credit payments cut in half at Christmas

It’s not uncommon for British businesses to pay staff early over the festive period, but although it can seem like an early Christmas present, it could backfire.

Anyone who relies on Universal Credit to top up their income could find that they are actually paid less this month because being paid early might take them over the earnings threshold.

However, it can be avoided if Britons check their Christmas pay dates and speak to their HR department and their work coach if they think there’s going to be an issue.

Failure to not report it properly could mean that people who are already struggling to make ends meet have their December benefits cut in half.
