As a result, many remaining holiday parks, holiday homes and hotels have pushed up the price of their accommodation.

But there are still some deals to be found if you switch your holiday to counties like Essex, Kent and Yorkshire.

In February, we revealed that Brits wanting a holiday in Cornwall this summer had been put on waiting lists due to demand.

Cornwall Tourism boss Malcom Bell warned that Brits are so desperate that they are asking fully booked destinations to contact them for cancellations.

He told Sun Online Travel: “The demand is there – there are lots of people asking to be put on waiting lists for self-catered places.

“People are phoning up, saying ‘I know you are fully booked but will you take my phone number in case something comes up in July?'”

“I am predicting we will be full up.”

The county is expecting nearly three million visitors over the course of the summer season – 10 per cent more than 2020 thanks to a combination of vaccine confidence and uncertainty over foreign holidays.

In England, travel started to open up on April 12, when holiday homes and campsites reopened – but only people from one household were allowed to share accommodation.

From May 17, up to six people from different households or unlimited numbers from two households are allowed to shared holiday accommodation together.

Hotels and B&B’s will also be allowed to reopen.
