The Teacher Within

The ultimate teacher resides within ourselves. Just like those people in your life who can offer genuine guidance, your inner guru is also there to help you find the way. You might think of this as your intuition, your soul, your heart or your inner compass. When the weight of expectations is on our shoulders, it can be hard to hear our inner teacher.

As you begin to recognise those people in your life who are truly positive for you, you also begin to know and trust yourself again. Your natural confidence will begin to blossom and you will find things become a lot easier, even during very challenging times.

You may still have those times when you want to curse yourself for making the ‘wrong’ decision or making a mistake, but you’ll find yourself more resilient and quicker to pick yourself up, dust yourself off and move on without the need for self-blame and recriminations. When your ego makes all the decisions, the potential for upset is far greater because your ego is so easily hurt or put on the defensive.

One word of criticism and the ego either crumbles into despair at the horror of not being perfect or puffs itself up into aggression and dismay — ‘who are you to criticise me?’ With your much more relaxed inner ‘guru’, you can actually listen to criticism and, if it is helpful, great, you learn a lesson; if it’s come from a place of ignorance, then you can politely ignore it.
