Tesco Clubcard Plus: Should you pay monthly cost for savings and deals? New card EXPLAINED

For the first time, a UK supermarket has launched a loyalty subscription service. Under the Clubcard Plus scheme, customers pay monthly for the service. So what do customers get in return?

Subscribers to the Clubcard Plus scheme will pay £7.99 for the new service.

It takes two minutes to join up, and you can decide to cancel at any time.

Benefits from the scheme will be accessible in the supermarket’s Clubcard app.

Alessandra Bellini, Tesco chief customer officer, said: “New Clubcard Plus is a breakthrough innovation giving customers even more ways to get the best value while shopping at Tesco, for their everyday essentials, weekly shops, Mobile and Banking”.

“If you spend £80+ over two shops every month in Tesco stores it is worth it, as your gain is the same or more than the fee – if you max it out you’ll be £32/mth up.

“Tesco has learnt from Amazon Prime that when people pay for a subscription they’re more loyal, so bizarrely it will tend to get the benefit of the subscription fee and more sticky shoppers by doing this.”

The original Clubcard scheme will still operate as usual.

Subscribers to the new scheme will also be able to use their Clubcard to collect points and get vouchers.
