IT generalists, cloud support and cybersecurity are the top jobs that will be in demand post COVID-19 pandemic

A latest survey of CIOs and tech leaders from NPower reveals cyber security, remote IT
troubleshooting, and cloud support will be the top-most demanded skills for businesses in the coming months post COVID-19 pandemic.

The survey included IT leaders from companies like Deloitte, Bank of America, Microsoft, Citi, Dell, Proctor & Gamble, EY, BofA, AT&T, and Salesforce.

Nearly all (98%) of respondents said cybersecurity talent would be crucial for businesses over the next six to 18 months. In addition, organizations are looking for a skilled workforce in IT technical support as they enter the recovery phase following global lockdowns. Around 73% of survey participants identified remote IT troubleshooting roles as “very important” for businesses in the coming months. Meanwhile, nearly 90% of them said cloud support IT roles were either extremely or very important.

The report is based on the survey of 75 CIOs and tech executives from the financial services, consultancy, and technology industries. Nearly all IT leaders said they expect US organizations will extend remote working model post-pandemic. Organizations are prioritizing cyber security tech roles to protect employee devices from phishing attacks and other cyber threats. A range of new skill sets including remote tech support, network segmentation, and troubleshooting of devices are now at the forefront according to the majority of companies.

Post-COVID-19, nearly 70% of respondents said they expect a rise in investment from
businesses in upskilling and training for new IT skills. Moreover, the majority of IT leaders
agreed that hiring for entry-level IT positions would be slow throughout 2020. They also expect the hiring at will gradually pick up again in the first half of 2021. The survey notes that around 64% of US-based companies said they would increase efforts to mitigate risk and protect business continuity by using domestic as well as overseas IT suppliers.

COVID-19 has changed the working landscape along with highlighting emerging areas of
opportunity in the tech space. Tech leaders leading tech are weighing on new job roles and skill sets that will be necessary in a post-pandemic world.
