Spring classes at Riverside City College don’t start until Monday, Feb. 12,  but athletes who play spring sports are already hard at work.

For swimmers, that means some chilly early-morning workouts in the campus pool during the current cold snap.

Practices for the men’s and women’s swim teams began at 7 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16. At a time when most who are outdoors would be bundled up, athletes in swimsuits and goggles practiced strokes up and down the lanes as steam rose from the heated waters.

Members of the college’s track team, another spring sport, also began practices at nearby Wheelock Stadium and Field on campus.
