Former Arsenal head of recruitment Sven Mislentat is looking to take Gunners defender Konstantinos Mavropanos on loan to his current club Stuttgart.

Mislintat is now the sporting director at the Bundesliga club and is a big fan of the 22-year-old centre-back who Arsenal signed during his 14 month tenure in north London.

The Greek defender arrived at Arsenal from PAS Giannina in 2018 for just over £2m and has made seven Premier League appearances for the club, but injuries have blighted his career in England thus far.

With fitness issues, and Arsenal having a number of centre-backs at the club, Mavropanos was sent out on loan to Nurnberg in the second tier of German football in January, where he has impressed in 11 starts for the club.

Now there is a battle to sign him in Germany’s top flight as Mislintat’s Stuttgart and Weder Breman are both keen to get hold of him.

The Evening Standard reports that Arsenal are willing to let the Greek go out on loan again and gain experience in the Bundesliga, especially as William Saliba is arriving at the club full-time this summer.

Mavropanos is under contract at Arsenal until 2023, so a season in the Bundesliga could see him return at the end of next season ready to play regularly in the Premier League for the Gunners.

Arsenal currently have a wealth of options at centre-back, although many of them are of questionable quality.

Sokratis, Rob Holding, Calum Chambers, Shkodran Mustafi, Pablo Mari and David Luiz are currently competing for places in the heart of defence, with Saliba arriving back from his loan at St-Etienne ahead of next season.
