Sparc reveals 3-pronged business strategy to commercialise graphene tech – Stockhead

Graphene play Sparc Technologies (ASX:SPN) is now engaging with numerous potential customers across a wide range of sectors. To ensure commercialisation activities remain focused, the business will now be managed as three dedicated workstreams.

Light, thin and flexible, 200 times stronger than steel, highly conductive, hydrophobic and anti-microbial – graphene is a new generation super material with endless applications.

Sparc has now entered into a “significant number” of Non-Disclosure Agreements with major industry players interested in potentially incorporating the company’s graphene tech into their global products.

A strategic review, led by new chief executive officer Mike Bartels, has resulted in a fresh business strategy aimed at commercialisation.

“Having identified a number of core market opportunities arising from the exceptional results established by our development activities, the company is now progressing from the R&D phase to engaging with potential customers,” he says.

“Given the unique properties of graphene and the breadth of the potential applications available for deployment of Sparc’s unique and proprietary graphene technologies, the company has established a matrix by which it will pursue a number of key opportunities across its core business lines, and advance those that are nearer term to market implementation and adoption in priority to others.

“We have now entered into a significant number of Non-Disclosure Agreements with major industry players interested in potentially incorporating our graphene technology into their global products.

“As an example, Sparc is now working on 12 projects within the coatings enhancement work stream, which targets niche markets that we believe can be fast-tracked to commercialisation.”

‘Environment – Industrial Materials – Product Enhancement’ is concerned with optimising the performance of materials, like coatings (eg paint) and concrete, by adding graphene.

The ‘Sustainability and Remediation – Extraction’ workstream will develop products that both optimise, or where applicable, disrupt current industry practices regarding extraction, which currently mostly uses activated carbon.

As an absorbent material, graphene is more effective than activated carbon at extracting precious metals and remediation.

The company is also currently collaborating with several major industry partners in the biomedical and health space via the ‘Health – ‘Living a Better Life’ workstream.

The company is working on two applications of graphene in medical tech — wearable graphene biosensors for remote, real-time health monitoring and the enhancement of medical-grade materials.
