Southgate urged to start Grealish and drop England duo against Scotland

As the anticipation continues to build as England prepare to face Scotland at Wembley on June 18, fans have made their voices heard when it comes to who should be handed a starting jersey for the big game.

The Home Nations clash is a highlight for fans and players alike, having produced some of the most iconic moments of the European Championships over the years.

Despite a resounding victory over Croatia in the opening match of Euro 2020, England fans have been voting in their thousands and believe the England manager didn’t get it quite right in their European Championship opener.

So, let’s see what slight tweaks voters have made to Southgate’s starting XI.

Once again opting for a 4-3-3 formation, the Three Lions supporters are all about the attack.

Starting in goal, Jordan Pickford has the confidence of England fans, and remains in goal for the second match of the group stages with over 50% of the vote. Despite clashes with John Stones, supporters are happy with the Everton goalkeeper’s style of play.

Moving to the defence and we see the voters first clash with the Three Lions manager. Despite a decent game against the Croats, Kieran Trippier is left out of the starting defensive lineup, with Luke Shaw coming in to take his place at left back. He is the only change at the back though, with Kyle Walker, John Stones and Tyrone Mings retaining their places.

In the midfield, England fans want to see some more go forward from the starting XI. Dropping Declan Rice, they have brought in Jack Grealish, eager to see the Villa captain given a chance on the European stage. He would, if the voters had their way, line up alongside Mason Mount and Kalvin Phillips, the Leeds man gaining 16% of the vote after his Star of the Match performance against Croatia.

Up front, the England fans have come around to Southgate’s way of thinking. The starting front three remains the same, with Raheem Sterling, Phil Foden and Harry Kane bringing the attacking prowess for the England fans. Despite not being voted into the starting XI against Croatia, it seems Sterling’s goalscoring performance in the opener has won around a lot of the nation.

So, what do you think of the Mirror voters’ starting XI? Think some changes need to be made?
