Solskjaer hits out at "disrespect" shown to Man Utd star Donny van de Beek

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer criticised the “disrespect” shown towards Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek during a fiery outburst in his press conference.

Van de Beek moved to Old Trafford from Ajax at the beginning of the month for a fee which could rise to £40million.

The highly-rated Netherlands international had come close to joining Real Madrid, but the Spanish giants could not complete the deal amid the COVID-19 pandemic and United were able to swoop.

Van de Beek remains the only signing Solskjaer has made and with the 5 October deadline looming, the Red Devils boss did not appreciate a question regarding his quiet transfer window.

Solskjaer believes “disrespect” was shown towards Van de Beek

“I think you [the questioner] show quite a bit of disrespect to Donny when you say he [may be] the only one,” Solskjaer said ahead of Saturday’s trip to Brighton.

“Because he is a top player and he strengthens our team and of course we have to concentrate on ourselves. Different clubs have to be allowed to do whatever they do and feel they can.

“We are working hard to have a competitive squad and team. If and when there are updates we will give you them.”

United remain linked with Porto defender Alex Telles and prolific Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho ahead of the transfer deadline in just over a week’s time.

But Solskjaer preferred to focus on his current crop of players ahead of the trip to the Amex and called for his defence and midfield to contribute more goals.

The Norwegian added: “We need more goals from our set plays. Harry [Maguire] is one of the best in the league at first contacts from set plays. Can we get more from that?

“Can we get more goals from midfield? Of course that could give us extra points … We have got players in Donny and Paul [Pogba] who can definitely chip in with more goals, Jesse [Lingard], Juan [Mata], Dan James, they can get up there with a bigger tally as well.”
