Shamed Labour MP Keith Vaz to be booted out of Parliament after admitting himself to hospital

SHAMED Labour MP Keith Vaz is likely to be booted out of Parliament on Monday – after admitting himself to hospital.

Mr Vaz checked himself into hospital on Monday night – hours after the Commons standards watchdog found “compelling evidence” that he paid two men for sex and offered to buy cocaine for rent boys.

The House of Commons is expected to be asked on Monday to approve his six-month suspension, which was recommended by the damning Standards Committee report.

Labour was poised to sack him from the party yesterday, which would have barred him from standing at the election.

But the party was forced to hold back after he checked himself in to hospital for a “serious mental health condition”.

‘SERIOUS MENTAL HEALTH CONDITION’

Labour confirmed that he would be able to stand as a candidate “as things stand” but he could still be suspended.

The inquiry into the three-year old claims was scuppered due to Mr Vaz’s illness.

Two years ago Parliament’s ethics watchdog was forced to halt her investigation because of Mr Vaz’s “medical reasons”.

Monday’s scathing report by the Standards Committee blasted Mr Vaz for failing to cooperate with its inquiry, lambasting him for “failing repeatedly to answer questions”.

Commons sources said a motion on the recommended six-month suspension for Mr Vaz is likely to go ahead on Monday.

Usually the recommendation from the Standards Committee is ‘nodded through’ by MPs – meaning it is approved without having a vote.

But allies of Mr Vaz could force it to a vote. The Labour MP will also get the chance to make a short statement beforehand.

Mr Vaz’s office did not respond to requests for comment yesterday.
