Sergio Romero pinpoints Man Utd's secret weapon in Europa League pursuit

Sergio Romero believes Man Utd possess a secret weapon in their pursuit of Europa League glory.

The no.2 goalkeeper has played in eight of United’s 10 matches in the competition so far this season and joined his teammates on the flight to Germany on Sunday.

United play their quarter-final fixture with FC Copenhagen on Monday night for the chance to face the winner of Wolves vs Sevilla.

Should they progress to the final they could meet Italian giants Inter Milan, and Romero feels United’s close-knit team spirit can drive them to silverware.

“In Argentina, we say these are ‘vida o muerte ‘, life-and-death games because, if you win, you progress,” he told ManUtd.com. “But, if you lose, you’re going home.

“The fact is it will be decided by one-off games that you have to win. Anything can always happen in a game, your focus and mindset always need to be spot on, and your legs have to always respond.

“As a group of players, if we have a team-mate who is struggling a bit on the day, all the lads have to give him a lift, so he can compete in the game in the best possible way.

“For sure, every bit of work and effort every day in training, as well as all our dreams are focused on getting United back to another Europa League final.

“So, we’re going to work hard for that to happen.”

The defender has been struggling with a knee injury and failed to prove his fitness in time.

Jones will now play no further part in the competition and may have played his last game for the club amid links with a transfer this summer.
