Saudi Arabia, Virgin Hyperloop ink deal to build long-range test track – SDF-KH News

The study will fully focus on King Abdullah Economic City situated near the Red Sea port of Jeddah

Virgin Hyperloop One, the US based transportation technology company, has recently confirmed a development partnership with the Economic City Authority (ECA) of Saudi Arabia to conduct a study and build the longest test & certification hyperloop test track in the world, along with a hyperloop production facility and research & development center north of Jeddah.

Apparently, Virgin Hyperloop One is the first hyperloop company in the world that has tested its hyperloop technology at scale successfully.

Sources familiar with the matter informed that announcement had taken place at Los Angeles headquarters of Virgin Hyperloop One, led by Mohanud A. Helal, Secretary General of ECA. The study will fully focus on King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC) situated near the Red Sea port of Jeddah.

The project would include a certification and 35-kilometer test track, which will generate opportunities for developing specific hyperloop technologies and to develop local expertise within Saudi Arabia which can be scaled and commercialized. The study will also enable the acceleration of innovation clusters and the emergence of localized hyperloop supply chains across the Kingdom.

According to Secretary General Mohanud A. Helal, the commission will continue to assist in delivering the strategic pillars of Vision 2030, the high-tech job creation opportunities and technology transfer that this partnership brings will generate opportunities for young talents.

Mr. Helal added that to have a hyperloop track at King Abdullah Economic City will act like a catalyst for a Saudi Silicon Valley effect, while galvanizing their software development and manufacturing industries as well as high technology research.

Seemingly, Prince Mohammad bin Salman College of Business and Entrepreneurship will team up on the publication and creation of an academic paper detailing the economics of an Hyperloop Center of Excellence in KAEC.

A hyperloop system could allow Saudi Arabia to become a worldwide transportation powerhouse, grow an innovative knowledge workforce and nurture the nation’s entrepreneurial culture and innovation, CEO of Virgin hyperloop One, Jay Walder said.
