Santander helps hard-up 776,000 customers struggling with cost-of-living crisis

Chief executive Mike Regnier said the high-street banking giant has been in touch with hard-up account holders to help them stay on top of their spending and manage their energy bills. 

Santander has around 14 million UK customers.

Despite taking a £118million hit on potentially sour loans, its first half pre-tax profits rose 32 per cent to £993million thanks to strong mortgage lending, lower costs and higher interest rates.
