Salesforce co-founder Parker Harris discusses jobs, startups with Piyush Goyal


NEW DELHI: Parker Harris, co-founder and chief technology officer of Salesforce met with commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal on Friday. Harris who is on his maiden visit to India spoke about Salesforce’s India operations, plans for job creation and the startup ecosystem in the country. According to sources, on the issue of India drafting a personal data protection Bill, Goyal told the Salesforce team that a committee of the Parliament is studying the draft Bill.

After the meeting, Harris tweeted “Delighted to meet with @CIMGOI India’s Minister of Commerce & Industry and Railways @piyushgoyal to brief him on our growth plans and reaffirm our commitment to the exciting startup space in India!…”

Harris also held an industry roundtable in the morning. Member of the Parliament Meenakshi Lekhi and Rajeev Chandrasekhar along with Baijayant (Jay) Panda, vice-president of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) were present during the meeting where the personal data protection Bill and issues such as data localisation were discussed.

Salesforce is one of the exceptions among large technology companies since it is arguing in favour of more regulation for technology companies.

Harris who was on a business visit to India also visited Hyderabad. “Wonderful to meet dynamic Telangana @MinisterKTR to discuss collaboration opportunities on a wide range of issues from to AI to reforestation…” he tweeted.
