Former Manchester United captain Rio Ferdinand put club loyalties aside to congratulate Liverpool for their Premier League title victory.

The Reds won the title in record-breaking speed after Chelsea’s 2-1 win against Manchester City handed Jurgen Klopp’s men their first Premier League crown.

Liverpool have waited 30 years to win their 19th title and they’ll be hoping Klopp can usher in a new era of glory after finally ending their wait for the Premier League.

Ferdinand will be hoping that’s not the case but the former England skipper couldn’t begrudge his arch rivals of the league title, describing them as ‘relentless’.

Congrats Liverpool….Premier League champions,’ said Ferdinand.

’28 wins out of 31 games….nothing but praise for you!’

‘Thoroughly deserved…. Relentless appetite….especially losing it last season after being so good. Mentally tough!’

Ferdinand’s tweet came after an early message in which he jokingly said he was taking a break from social media for a couple of weeks in order to ignore Liverpool’s win.

Klopp joined the Reds in 2015 when he replaced Brendan Rodgers and though many tipped the German to reverse the club’s fortunes, few could have predicted he would do it so quickly.

The German has already guided the Reds to three European finals, winning the Champions League in the last of those in 2019.

However, this season’s Premier League victory is the sweetest of all as it’s the one that fans most craved after 30 years of hurt.
