Ferdinand, who had a trophy-laden career at Old Trafford, is a huge fan of Niguez and backed United’s efforts to sign him.

‘He’s another one, what a player. I’ve been harping on about Saul Niguez for a few years now,’ Ferdinand said on Instagram in a live video.

‘I think he’s a major player. Composed, calm, great left foot, lovely conductor, he can score goals, tactically he’s very aware.

‘You can see (Diego) Simeone, he gets his teams really well set up and he’s in the middle orchestrating and dictating things.

‘Saul Niguez is huge and it’s come out in the papers this week that Man United are interested in him, but we’ll have to wait and see. Man United are linked to everyone.’

United have been linked with big-money deals for several players including Jadon Sancho and Harry Kane.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is targeting a busy window and reportedly wants to sign a right winger, midfielder and a striker.

United have already spent a small fortune backing Solskjaer in the transfer market and signing Niguez and Sancho alone would cost well over £200million.

UEFA are set to hold a video conference meeting on Wednesday to discuss what to do with the summer transfer window while postponed games are being played.

The window may have to be extended or moved, with the coronavirus pandemic forcing global sport to go into lockdown.
