Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund has spoken out for the first time regarding his controversial interview with a club fan YouTube channel. The Dane chatted with presenter Mark Goldbridge on The United Stand but the reaction was very much split among not only supporters, but reportedly also the dressing room.
Various reports had claimed that Hojlund’s team-mates pulled him up to explain that his choice of news outlet was disappointing, insisting that the channel ‘was built on negativity and slaughtering United players’.
The 21-year-old sat down with Goldbridge to discuss his improved form before injury and also his personal life but it led to the presenter receiving death threats which the Greater Manchester Police are investigating.
However, Hojlund has cleared the air on the matter and confirmed that none of his team-mates had discussed the issue with him or shown their displeasure at his choice of interviewer.
“Nothing has been said to me so it is fake news,” Hojlund told Danish outlet Tipsbladet. “I haven’t read all of that, but it’s certainly not true that something has been said to me that I may not do an interview with this or that fan media.”
Goldbridge similarly hit out at his critics and explained how the club were aware of the interview: “Jealously always seems to burn brightest on a Sunday! So, that interview took months to put together. Everyone in the club was aware, the player and others were doing media on a training day at Carrington, we were there all morning. If anyone wanted to stop it they could of.”
