Raphinha has blasted Premier League officiating and referee Robert Jones after he was forced from the field with a nasty-looking injury in Leeds’ 1-1 draw with Wolves.

The 24-year-old forward, Leeds’ top scorer with three goals this season, was caught by a sliding challenge from Romain Saiss and Crysencio Summerville came on in his place in the 54th minute.

Marcelo Bielsa will have breathed a sigh of relief as Rodrigo cancelled out Hwang Hee-chan’s opener deep into stoppage time, but the sight of Raphinha being helped down the tunnel put a dampener on the late drama at Elland Road.

‘He has a knock, but I don’t know the extent of it,’ Bielsa told reporters at his post-match press conference.

The Leeds coach was disappointed his side weren’t able to secure all three points after a strong second-half performance.

‘I think as the game wore on our insistence started to fatigue,’ he added.

‘As the second half advanced, we started to generate pressure with [Stuart] Dallas and [Daniel] James and [Jamie] Shackleton, Summerville, [Joe] Gelhardt and Rodrigo. We were able to worry the opponent.

‘As such, I thought that result was insufficient as I thought we could’ve scored more than one goal.’

The severity of Raphina’s injury remains to be seen. But it’s clear the Brazilian is furious with Saiss escaping with only a yellow card for the challenge he made shortly after half-time.

‘The best referees are in the Premier League,’ Raphinha sarcastically fumed in Portuguese on his Instagram page along with a video of the foul.

Raphinha has established himself as one of Leeds’ key players since swapping Rennes for West Yorkshire back last October and has started all eight of the club’s top-flight matches this term.

The versatile Brazil international racked up six goals and nine assists across an outstanding debut season in the Premier League last year and was the subject of intense transfer speculation in the summer.

Speaking to Betfair earlier this week, Rivaldo urged Raphinha to strongly consider a move to Liverpool should the opportunity arise.

‘Raphinha performed well on his debut for Brazil, but he was already shining in the Premier League with Leeds United and there are rumours of interest from Liverpool,’ the iconic ex-Barcelona and Brazil star said.

‘If he were to make the move, he may not be a regular starter, but I’m sure it would be a big step in his career since it would allow him to compete for titles and play in the Champions League which could be crucial for more call ups into the Brazilian national team.

‘He has the quality to player for a bigger club. He is playing excellent football and a player always wants more and stronger challenges, so he would benefit from a transfer.’
