Launched in 2016, the Qualcomm Design in India Challenge encourages startups to develop innovative hardware products using Qualcomm Technologies’ advanced technologies. To help them launch their products in the market, the challenge offers professional scaling workshops to shortlisted startups along with IP generation incentives of up to Rs 3.2 lakh to each startup to boost innovation.

The 2019 edition of the challenge witnessed quite a few entries for smart infrastructure, followed by medical tech, robotics, automotive and machine learning from startups showcasing their innovative products and solutions. Select startups also participated in events like CES, Taipei Startup Fest and India Mobile Congress.

As part of the challenge, a late-Stage Startup track was introduced which provided mature startups technical support to incorporate Qualcomm Technologies’ tech into their products. Additionally, in June 2019, the MeitY Startup Hub agreed to provide startups a fast track access to be included in the Qualcomm Design in India Challenge, both in its contest track as well as the late-stage track. The challenge also offered hands-on IP awareness workshops at 3 MSH recommended centers.

So far, Qualcomm has supported 57 startups through the Qualcomm Design in India Challenge, with an overall investment of over $13 million.
