  • White with beige interiors, the Pope’s Duster has five seats

Is this the answer to a pontiff’s automotive prayers? Pope Francis has just taken delivery of a humble Dacia Duster SUV, which is to be his new popemobile.

The 4×4 has been adapted for the Vatican by a budget-price Romanian marque, part of France’s Renault group.

White with beige interiors, the Pope’s Duster has five seats, including a ‘particularly comfortable’ rear bench seat.

It also has a large sunroof, with removable glass superstructure for events, and ground clearance 30 mm lower than normal for easier access, as well extra accessories for the Holy See.

The Duster is already achieving a wide following for its easy customisation.

Prices start from £10,995 for the Access TCe 100, and reach up to £18,895 for the Prestige TCe 150 4×4.

AUDI’S NEW RS6 AVANT PUTS SIZZLE INTO SCHOOL RUNS

Fancy a 190 mph family estate that will carry five people, plus luggage, and deliver supercar-style performance?

Audi’s new, fourth-generation RS6 Avant will certainly put fizz into family holidays and sizzle into school runs.

I drove it on launch in California just as UK order books opened ahead of first deliveries in January.

Created by the maker’s performance arm, Audi Sport, almost every exterior part has been replaced with a racing-inspired part, and the car sits lower and wider than the standard R6 on 21 in or 22 in wheels.

The mighty 600 bhp four-litre V8 engine is linked to 48-volt mild hybrid motor and eight-speed automatic gearbox, and develops 40 bhp more than the car it replaces. It accelerates from rest to 62 mph in a swishing 3.6 seconds. Prices start at £92,750.
