Piers Morgan's brutal Mesut Ozil declaration ahead of Arsenal transfer exit

Piers Morgan branded Mesut Ozil a “lazy, manipulative wastrel” as he bid an acrimonious farewell to the midfielder.

Ozil is set to finally end his time with the Gunners after agreeing the termination of his contract to pave the way for a move to Fenerbahce.

The German playmaker made over 250 appearances for Arsenal, winning three FA Cups, but has spent the last 10 months in exile under manager Mikel Arteta.

During that time, Ozil has continued to pocket £350,000 per week and has enraged onlookers with his activity on social media.

Morgan is one of the 32-year-old’s biggest critics and declared he “can’t wait to see the back” of him.

In a brutal parting message on Twitter, the Good Morning Britain co-presenter wrote: “Loved Mesut Ozil when he first came to Arsenal. World class player with a sublime natural talent.

“Now I can’t wait to see the back of the lazy, manipulative £350,000-a-week wastrel. You could have been a club legend, Mesut – but you just couldn’t be bothered. Bye.”

It is not the first time Morgan has taken to social media to take aim at Ozil. Earlier in January, he offered to drive the World Cup winner to the airport to help facilitate his exit from the north London club.

Morgan was also desparate for Ozil to leave Arsenal last summer and labelled him “disgraceful” for refusing to take a pay cut during the coronavirus pandemic.

Is Piers Morgan’s criticism of Mesut Ozil fair? Have your say in the comments.

Morgan’s ill-feeling towards the former Real Madrid fan stretches some way back, as he lashed out over the number of “sick days” Ozil took back in 2018.

“On his day he is a world class footballer and arguably the most gifted we have. But he too often disappears and I have never known anyone have as many sick days,” Morgan told BT Sport .

“There is something wrong with his heart, not physically or medically, something that doesn’t get him going enough. If he can’t rise to the level [former Arsenal boss Unai] Emery wants, go and play somewhere else.

“I don’t care how good you are because the other players are showing utter commitment. If he wants to play for this team, he has to turn up every game and he just doesn’t do it.”
