Petrol, diesel prices rise again on Friday; petrol nears Rs 100 mark almost everywhere

Áfter a days pause, petrol prices rose by 27 paise on Friday to touch Rs 96.93 per litre in Delhi. Diesel climbed 28 paise to touch Rs 87.69 a litre.

OMCs today hiked petrol and diesel prices between 23-30 paisa per litre across the four metros.

In Mumbai, today’s rate for a litre petrol is Rs 103.08, in Chennai Rs 98.14 and in Kolkata, Rs 96.84.

Diesel is retailing at Rs 95.14 in Mumbai, Rs 92.31 in Chennai and Rs 90.54 in Kolkata.

Over the last few days, oil companies have taken to a new practice of revising retail prices every two days.

Since May 1, petrol and diesel prices have been raised on 26 days and remained unchanged on 23 days. The 26 hikes have made petrol prices rise by Rs 6.53 per litre in the national capital. Diesel, on the other hand, has climbed by Rs 6.96 per litre.

Petrol has now reached very close to touching Rs 100/litre mark in most regions in the county except Mumbai, where it breached the mark more than two weeks ago.

Prices are likely to rise further on the back of a climbing crude in global markets.
