In 2020, and in the midst of the full pandemic, the offer of telecommunications services was more attractive to customers than the previous year, mainly in triple play packages, which was reflected in more channels for restricted TV and unlimited calls included.
The IFT’s 2020 Comparable Information Report on Plans and Rates for Fixed Telecommunications Services (Double and Triple play) revealed that 60% of the current plans in this modality have more TV channels for users.
This percentage represents an advance of five percentage points with respect to the plans of a year before.
Likewise, the report reflects that 95% of the packages include unlimited minutes to make calls, a figure that represents an increase of eight percentage points compared to 2019.
The report also highlights the advance of six percentage points in the number of fixed internet, fixed telephony and pay television plans in the triple play mode that offer download speeds greater than 50 megabytes.
This means that, in 2019, 32% of the plans offered this speed, but in the pandemic year this offer rose to 38% of the packages.
The Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) explained that in order to carry out the report, 40 plans corresponding to the current offer available to the user were analyzed.
In total, the number of channels offered in the plans ranges between 42 and 280.
Six out of every 10 current pay TV plans offer more than 100 channels; while 35% of the plans concentrate from 50 to 100 channels.
Also, only 5% of the plans are offered in the range of up to 49 channels.
Furthermore, 60% of the plans offer a download speed of 10 to 50 megabytes, and a lower percentage of plans (3%) offer a download speed of less than 10 megabytes.
The IFT highlighted in the report that the monthly rent of the plan with a download speed of less than 10 megabytes is 520 pesos, while the plans of 10 to 50 megabytes have monthly income of 410 to 820 pesos.
While, the monthly payment of the plans with speed greater than 50 megabytes ranges between 754 and 2,059 pesos.
