Owen Wilson to Star in Golf Comedy Series at Apple TV+ – Variety

Owen Wilson is set to star in a comedy series at Apple TV+ set in the world of professional golf, Variety has learned.

The untitled series hails from writer Jason Keller. Apple has given the series a 10-episode order. Per the official description, Wilson will star as Pryce Cahill, “an over-the-hill, ex-pro golfer whose career was derailed prematurely 20 years ago. After he gets fired from his job at an Indiana sporting goods store and his wife walks out on him, Pryce hedges his bets entirely on a troubled 17-year-old golf phenom.”

Both Keller and Wilson also serve as executive producers on the series. Propagate Content’s Ben Silverman will also executive produce along with Howard T. Owens and Rodney Ferrell, Entertainment 360’s Guymon Casady, Piece of Work’s Lee Eisenberg and Natalie Sandy, and Chris Moynihan. Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris will direct.

This is the latest TV role for Wilson of late. He currently stars in the Marvel-Disney+ series “Loki,” which dropped its second season in late 2023. Wilson also lent his voice to the animated series “Cars on the Road,” reprising the role of Lightning McQueen from the “Cars” Pixar film franchise. In film, Wilson is known for his collaborations with Wes Anderson, with the pair earning an Oscar nomination in 2002 for best original screenplay for “The Royal Tennenbaums.” Wilson also starred in the film, as well as in other Anderson films like “The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou,” “Bottle Rocket,” and “The Darjeeling Limited.” His other film roles include “Zoolander,” “Wedding Crashers,” “Starsky and Hutch,” and “Midnight in Paris.”

He is repped by UTA and Hirsch Wallerstein.

This also marks the first television series of Keller’s writing career. He most recently worked on the screenplay for the 2019 film “Ford v. Ferrari.” Prior to that, his writing credits include “Escape Plan,” “Machine Gun Preacher,” and “Mirror Mirror.”

He is repped by CAA and Entertainment 360.
