Opinion: Remember benefits of Enterprise South, but don’t be in a rush to develop McDonald Farm – Chattanooga Times Free Press

Some residents living nearby had environmental concerns. Others weren’t sure if the site ever could attract the manufacturing powerhouse that was envisioned. Still more were concerned about the cost of infrastructure to get the site ready. And some thought the park aspect of the site deserved more consideration.

McDonald Farm in Sale Creek?

Nope, all of the above were said at one time or another about the Enterprise South Industrial Park, a 1,200-acre site purchased by Hamilton County and the City of Chattanooga nearly 25 years ago and now the site of a Volkswagen manufacturing plant, among many other industries, as well as 2,800 wooded acres that comprise the Enterprise South Nature Park.

But almost the same exact things have been said about McDonald Farm, the 2,100-acre parcel purchased by the county in 2021 for $16 million.

To be fair, there’s also a bit of an apples and oranges comparison of the two sites.
