Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praised Fred’s performance after Manchester United’s 3-1 win over Norwich and claimed the midfielder will be an ‘important’ player for the the club after a spate of injuries.

The Red Devils have bounced back from a miserable run of six matches in all competitions without victory by winning their last two games against Partizan and the Canaries.

On Sunday afternoon, Scott McTominay, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial all scored at Carrow Road as United triumphed on the road for the first time since February in the Premier League.

Rashford and Martial both missed penalties and Onel Hernandez scored a late consolation goal for Norwich, but the visitors will be delighted to have emerged with all three points.

United are currently without Eric Bailly, Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Luke Shaw, Axel Tuanzebe and Diogo Dalot and Solskjaer believes Fred will be a key player over the coming months.

Speaking after United’s win on Sunday, the Norwegian said: ‘Fred was excellent with Scotty.

‘The two of them the last two games, Liverpool and this one.

‘Delighted for Fred, he’s had a tough time but he’s just improving and improving and he’ll be important for us because we’ve got some injuries.’

Despite Fred’s promising performance against Norwich, Roy Keane took a swipe at the Brazilian in a discussion about United’s reported interest in Christian Eriksen.

Asked whether United should look to sign the Tottenham playmaker, Keane said: ‘Not if I were the Manchester United manager.

‘I think he will get a move, he’s on a free.

‘But I don’t think he’d improve those teams and that’s the key for a club like Manchester United who are trying to close the gap.

‘He won’t make Man United better, but having said that, Man United bought Fred.’
