North East financial advice firm doubles headcount during pandemic

Phil Anderson Financial Services has doubled its headcount during the pandemic, with two new appointments this month.

Andrew Scouller has joined as a financial adviser, while Emma Reid is working as a trainee financial adviser, bringing the team up to a total of 15 members of staff, more than double the seven it had last year.

Cruden Bay-based Scouller has worked in financial services for the past 16 years, most recently as an independent financial adviser with EIS Financial Services, where he specialised in providing advice to teachers and their families.

In this new role, he will be advising clients on retirement planning, savings and investments, and protection insurance.

“I really enjoy retirement planning as this is where independent advice is really important – it allows us to tailor plans to fit clients’ needs, rather than a generic, off-the-shelf option,” Scouller commented.

“I’m looking forward to supporting a wider range of clients with Phil Anderson Financial Services, and building strong and meaningful relationships with those clients.”

Reid recently completed a Scots Law with English Law degree at the University of Aberdeen.

Alongside her studies, she worked in various roles within the NHS, which saw her most recently managing a clinical administration team that facilitated the roll-out of the vaccine project.

Aberdeen-born Reid will continue studying in her new role. Initially she will be supporting the team to meet the needs of clients, while working towards a diploma through the London Institute of Banking & Finance to become a fully qualified financial adviser.

“I am absolutely delighted to be joining Phil Anderson Financial Services, and working with such a committed and successful team as we continue to grow from strength to strength,” she said.

“I look forward to gaining more experience in this dynamic industry, and applying the knowledge I will gain through the professional qualification to better serve our clients.”

Managing director Phil Anderson, who founded the business in 2010, stated: “Despite the challenges of lockdown, our client base has continued to grow across the North-east and beyond, prompting this continued expansion of our team.

“As well as ensuring we have the capacity to support our growing number of clients, we’re also committed to supporting our staff to acquire the professional knowledge and qualifications they need to offer the best possible financial advice, and to further their own career development.”

The firm, which has its head office in Ellon, experienced its busiest month ever for new applications in March.

In addition to the increase in the mortgage business, Phil Anderson Financial Services has widened its reach in investments, pensions and insurance.

The firm has offices across the North East, with a new office in the pipeline for Caithness, as well as a prospective move to larger premises for its headquarters.
