Nitin Gadkari asks Uttar Pradesh govt to exempt toll plaza agreements from stamp duty

New Delhi: Union Minister for Road Transport, Highways Nitin Gadkari on Thursday asked the Uttar Pradesh government to exempt toll plaza agreements from stamp duty in the State. Gadkari also asked for expediting land acquisition for developing National Highways in the State, which has been a key hurdle in completion of infrastructure projects in the country.

The minister was speaking after virtually inaugurating and laying the foundation stones of 16 National Highway projects with a total length of over 500 kms worth Rs 7,477 crore in Uttar Pradesh. Gadkari said that about 3,700 kilometre of National highways’ length worth Rs 42,000 crore has been added in Uttar Pradesh in the last six years. Over 11,389 kms of NHs in the State, and roads worth Rs 1.3 lakh crore are being constructed in UP, he said. “I want to add that over the next three years, we will add new roads worth Rs 2 lakh crore in the State,” Gadkari said.

The Minister also requested the State government to consider halving the utility shifting supervision charge from 5 per cent to 2.5 per cent, as is being done by other States. Gadkari, who also has the charge for ministry of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) , called for quick disbursal of land acquisition compensation for expediting the NH projects in Uttar Pradesh.

The minister said that the UP State government should begin work on movement of sea-planes from Varanasi, Prayagraj, besides other cities along the river Ganga. Gadkari also stressed on the need for completion of road projects on time. “I have never compromised on quality, now I won’t compromise on time either,” he said. National highway works of 2,900 km worth Rs 65,000 crore will be completed in the current year in UP, Gadkari said, adding that an additional 1100 km length of road projects worth Rs 14,000 crore are targeted to be awarded this year.
