Nintendo Switch’s Successor Release: Here’s all you may want to know

Nintendo, the renowned gaming company, is set to unveil its next gaming console, following the success of the Nintendo Switch, which was launched 8 years ago. The announcement is expected by the end of March 2025.

Formal Announcement

The announcement was teased in a post on X Tuesday, coinciding with the release of Nintendo’s latest earnings report and a less optimistic outlook for fiscal year 2025. According to Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa, “We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year. It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch back in March 2015.”

Focus on Software

While there will be a Nintendo Direct in June highlighting the software lineup for the latter half of 2024, there will be no mention of the new console. The company plans to focus on showcasing upcoming games for the Nintendo Switch during this event.

Strong Sales Performance

Nintendo reported selling 15.7 million Switch consoles between April 2023 and March 2024, contributing to a total sales revenue of 1.7 trillion yen for the year. This marked a 4.4% increase compared to the previous year. Net profit also saw a significant rise, reaching 490.6 billion yen, up by 13.4%.

Outlook for Fiscal Year 2025

Despite the strong performance in fiscal 2024, Nintendo is forecasting a decline in Switch console sales to 13.5 million units for the current fiscal year. The company expects net sales to reach 1.35 trillion yen and net profit to total 300 billion yen.
