Nicolas Pepe was pushed for his opinion on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s future by an Arsenal fan and, while he was anything but certain, he predicted his teammate will stay for the rest of the season.

Aubameyang is in a strange situation with the Gunners, having been exiled from the first team and the captaincy stripped from him after disciplinary issues.

The Gabon striker went off to the Africa Cup of Nations, which should have been something of a respite from the problems in north London, but health concerns saw him return to the UK.

After a series of medical examinations it was deemed that the 32-year-old is healthy, which is excellent news, but his future remains up in the air.

He has been linked with a number of clubs across Europe, with Juventus, AC Milan, PSG, Sevilla and Marseille all interested, while Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr have made a bid to take him on loan.

There are plenty of suitors for the striker, but Pepe reckons he will stay when asked about Aubameyang’s future while on duty with Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Asked whether he thought Aubameyang will stay, Pepe said in a video posted on social media: ‘I don’t know. I think he’ll stay, but I don’t know.’

Aubameyang has not said much on his situation at Arsenal, but did confirm that he was in good health earlier this week.

He posted on Instagram on Thursday: ‘Hi guys, I came back to London to do some additional checks, and I’m very happy to say that my heart is absolutely fine and I’m completely healthy!!

‘Really appreciate all the messages over the last few days and I’m already back at it.’
