Neymar sends message to Joshua Kimmich after PSG beat Bayern Munich

Neymar has denied he deliberately celebrated in front of Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich after PSG advanced to the semi finals of the Champions League last night.

The Ligue 1 giants avenged last season’s defeat in the final by advancing on the away goals rule following a 3-3 draw on aggregate, despite last night’s 1-0 defeat on home soil.

Neymar had been instrumental in securing a 3-2 first leg advantage and was to the fore again last night as Mauricio Pochettino’s side advanced to the last four, where they will meet either Manchester City or Borussia Dortmund.

Brazilian superstar Neymar was understandably delighted his team managed to dethrone the Germans, but drew criticism for celebrating with Leandro Paredes after the final whistle, directly in front of a clearly unimpressed Kimmich.

‘It’s funny because I didn’t even celebrate to mess with him, it was more with Leo and I ended up celebrating with him. It was fate that put me close to [Kimmich],’ Neymar told TNT Sports Brasil after the match.

‘He said that their team was better, that they would win. He was sure that they would go to the semi finals.’

On the significance of the victory, he added: ‘The message we had to send was given last season, when we reached the final, played a great game against Bayern, which was the best team last year.

‘This year I didn’t see it that way. During the draw, I told my teammates that we were going to face Bayern, and it happened.

‘I told them to be calm, that we were prepared. We needed to show this to ourselves, that we can do it. It was a great game, even though we were beaten, we played better.’

Neymar, meanwhile, has constantly been linked with a return to Barcelona over the course of an eventful four years in Paris and although he is still to sign a new contract, he strongly hinted his long-term future remains in the French capital.

He said: ‘I don’t think this is even a topic anymore, I obviously feel very comfortable, at home at PSG,” Neymar said. “I feel happier than before.’
