Newegg has jobs for displaced Fry’s Electronics workers – Press-Enterprise

Newegg, an e-commerce retailer of computers, computer parts and other electronic gear, is offering support to Southern California workers displaced by the recent closure of Fry’s Electronics.

The company is looking to fill more than 65 corporate positions at its City of Industry headquarters. The company’s in-house staffing agency is also recruiting for outplacement jobs at local businesses, including temporary, permanent and seasonal positions.

Newegg representatives could not be reached Friday to discuss which local companies it’s working with.

All told, Newegg has hundreds of roles available for immediate hire or placement. Many of the positions are well suited to former Fry’s Electronics employees, according to Jamie Spannos, the company’s global chief operating officer.

“We want to do our part to serve the community by helping connect former Fry’s employees with their next job, whether that means working with us here at Newegg or finding roles elsewhere via our in-house staffing agency,” Spannos said in a statement.

Newegg has in-house openings in finance, human resources, IT and web management, marketing, operations, sales, product management, customer service and e-commerce merchandising.

Information on the jobs can be found at bit.ly/3e9ZfSN.

Newegg Staffing recruits workers in the logistics, manufacturing, clerical and supply chain management industries. It serves companies of all sizes that are looking to fill permanent positions, temporary roles, executive slots and seasonal jobs. The staffing service currently is sourcing more than 100 jobs in Southern California.

Fry’s sudden closure

Fry’s Electronics, a go-to chain for tech tinkerers, abruptly ceased operations at all 31 of its stores on Feb. 24. The chain operated stores in Burbank, Woodland Hills and Fountain Valley in 2020, drawing a mix of customer reviews on Yelp.com as late as January.

The company had been in business for nearly 36 years with a presence in nine states. The retailer tied the closures to “changes in the retail industry and the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

When the store closings were announced, Fry’s said it was in the process of reaching out to customers with repairs and consignment vendors to help them understand what the next steps would be.

Online sales revenues rising

The U.S. Census Bureau reported last month that e-commerce sales totaled nearly $792 billion in 2020, up 32.4% from the previous year.

Founded in 2001, Newegg has distribution facilities scattered throughout the U.S. and Canada. The company has more than 30 million registered customers.

The online retailer is known as a technology buyer’s destination. The company’s VR Central portal chronicles the latest developments in virtual reality, and its GameCrate website the offers latest gaming news, editorial commentary and product releases.

Hangzhao Liaison Interactive Information Technology Co., a Chinese technology company, acquired a majority stake in Newegg in 2016.
