Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is due to open in Epcot in 2021 – the first rollercoaster opening in the land – although this may be delayed to 2022 due to coronavirus.

The ride is being dubbed a “storytelling coaster,” with 360-degree rotating seats and a reverse launch and is also the first Marvel ride for Disney World.

Passengers will follow the story of the intergalactic military force Nova Corps, exploring a planetarium-like exhibition, before boarding the ride.

According to the designers, the carriages have been “inspired by NASA.”

Imagineer Zack Riddley posted the images on Instagram, explaining: “If you look closely at the colorful paint design on the vehicles (called coaches in roller coaster engineering parlance), each one is unique with different wear patterns and impact marks.”

“Imagineers were inspired by markings that appear on NASA Space Shuttles and other spacecraft upon reentry into Earth’s atmosphere.”

The new ride was first announced in 2017, and has replaced the the Universe of Energy pavilion, home to the “Ellen’s Energy Adventure” ride.

If the ride does open next year, it will be timed to celebrate the park’s 50th anniversary.

According to Disney: “At Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind the adventure will start in the “Galaxarium,” a planetarium-like exhibition that explores the similarities and mysteries of the formation of Earth’s galaxy and Xandar. “

“You’ll be invited to learn more about Xandar’s treasures – until the moment when the Guardians of the Galaxy arrive, and adventures across the cosmos ensue.”

Other rides coming to Disney World include a Tron ride, while Universal Orlando have revealed their Jurassic Park ride.

Here are some other theme parks and rollercoasters to look forward to next year.
