New high-tech transportation service to shuttle KCPS students in 2024-25 – KCTV 5

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A new high-tech transportation service is set to shuttle students in Kansas City, Mo., to and from school next year.

Officials with the Kansas City, Mo., Public School district announced on Thursday, March 21, that an agreement has been reached with Zum Transportation. The new agreement will begin in the 2024-25 school year and will handle student transportation needs.

Transportation officials noted that the new partnership is meant to improve its ability to shuttle students to and from school in a safe way that also empowers families.

KCPS described Zum as a tech-forward student transportation company that offers safe and reliable services. New state-of-the-art services and peace of mind are at the forefront of the new partnership’s benefits – as well as enhanced safety features, transparency and increased technology.

According to the district, Zum’s buses put safety features and family-focused services above all. Through the Zum app, families can view their child’s driver’s profile and track said child’s whereabouts. This includes live locations as well as pickup and drop-off statuses. Administrators can also optimize routes through the app.

Zum told KCPS that it is committed to working with the district to create a plan to transition its entire school bus fleet to 100% electric. The company is the first and only carbon-neutral student transportation company in the nation. Its NetZero initiative has made it the leading company in electric school bus conversion.

Drivers have also been told not to worry as they are at the center of Zum’s service. It offers higher wages with modern benefits, top-of-the-line buses, equipment and technology – all to ensure students and drivers are comfortable and safe. Drivers can also sign up for advanced training and certification programs.
