Gasoline SUV with JIO Internet function
MG Motor, which currently offers Hector, Hector Plus, Gloster and ZSEV in India, will soon enter the midsize SUV segment. This new upcoming SUV from MG will also be India’s most affordable model. It is comparable to Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.
Given the huge demand in the Crete / Sertos segment, this new SUV was once expected to increase the company’s sales with a significant margin. Alternatively, you can double MG’s sales in India. Currently, SUVs are called ZS Gasoline or Aster. The ZS is based on the ZSEV, but because it has a gasoline engine. The latter is due to a leak of trademark application documents confirming that MG has registered the name Astor as a trademark in India.
MGASTOR and Reliance JIO
Today, MG Motor India announced that it will partner with JIO to provide digital services for its next SUV. MG hasn’t revealed the name of the SUV, but we’re sure it’s a new aster.
Rajeev Chaba, President and Managing Director of MG Motor India, said: In the IoT space, this is a step towards establishing MG Motor as a technology leader in the automotive industry. Through this partnership, the next medium-sized connected SUV will further simplify the driving experience and ensure technology-backed safety. “
Kiran Thomas, Director and President of Jio, said: Give MG users access to real-time connections, infotainment, and telematics. This is an effort to evolve the technology of the automobile industry with innovation as the main pillar. “
It will be available in India later this year, just before the holiday season. It is essentially a petrol-powered version of the modified format MG ZSEV. Initially scheduled for launch earlier this year, the launch date was the last quarter of the year due to the ongoing pandemic that caused a significant shortage of semiconductor chips.
Aster’s test model was spyed in the parking lot, paying attention to some of its exterior and interior features. Based on the updated ZS, Astor gets a new front grille, reprofiled headlamps, and a new alloy wheel design. Compared to the exterior design found on the MG ZS EV, the new Astor also has a revised front end with a new hexagonal grille, full LED headlamps and new bumpers.

The external dimensions are total length 4,314 mm, total width 1,809 mm, total height 1,644 mm, wheelbase 2,585 mm, minimum ground clearance 205 mm. Rear design elements include a sloping roofline, sharper LED tail lamps, new bumpers, and faux kid plates. Astor rides on a 17-inch dual-tone diamond-cut alloy wheel and receives a red-colored brake caliper.
The all-black interior with silver accents provides a neat and tidy interior. A fully digitized instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are angled towards the driver. It also offers MGiSmart connectivity technology and a panoramic sunroof.
The next model will also acquire Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), as seen in MG Gloster. This means that you are likely to receive features such as autonomous emergency braking system, blind spot detection, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, head-on collision warning, and hands-free automatic parking.
Engine and transmission options
For engine and transmission options, you can get an output of 118hp and a torque of 150Nm via a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder naturally aspirated gasoline engine. It can be coupled to a 6-speed manual or CVT automatic gearbox. After launch, it will take over Hyundai Creta (currently dominating the segment), Kia Seltos, Skodakshak, and the upcoming Volkswagen Rout.
Pricing plays a major role in the success of the new forecast price in the 9-15 rupee segment. The new product will be produced at the company’s Halol manufacturing plant in Gujarat and has an annual production capacity of Rs 10,000.
