Mauricio Pochettino touted for move to "one of the biggest" Premier League teams

Jan Vertonghen believes his former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino will soon be hired by one of the biggest Premier League teams.

Pochettino impressed in his five-and-a-half years in north London, helping Spurs qualify for the Champions League on four separate occasions and leading them to the final of the competition in 2019.

He was replaced by Jose Mourinho last November following a poor run of form, however, and has been out of a job ever since.

Pochettino has been linked with a whole host of clubs since then, with Russian side Zenit Saint Petersburg the latest rumour.

But Vertonghen, who now plays for Benfica, told CBS Soccer that he is convinced the Argentinean manager’s future lies in England.

“I can imagine he’s impatient,” the defender said. “I think the English league suits him very well as he’s a manager that prioritises fitness levels and the physicality of the game.

“I think managing in the Premier League is probably the best thing he can do. He will always want to coach a big team I guess, so you have to look at the biggest teams in the league and there are only two or three you can really look at I think at this point.

“If I was him I would be impatient because he really loved his job and you want to continue that.”

Rumours have regularly touted Pochettino with a move to Manchester United, although their manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appears to be turning things around following a poor start to the season.

Some have suggested Pochettino could one day replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United

Elsewhere there is speculation that this could be Pep Guardiola’s last season at Manchester City, with the Catalan’s contract set to expire at the end of the campaign.

A less likely option would be Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp seemingly going nowhere any time soon, while Pochettino previously ruled out the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea due to his connection with Spurs.
