Martin Lewis urges women to open HMRC letter as they could be owed thousands

Martin Lewis has issued a warning to thousands of women who could be owed money due to a national insurance miscalculation.

The Money Saving Expert says more than 200,000 women over the age of 66, are due to receive a letter from HMRC that could add tens of thousands of pounds onto their state pension.

Most of those affected took time off work for childcare responsibilities between 1978 and 2010.

Mr Lewis said: “The State is starting to write to people telling them they are due these credits, which can be worth tens of thousands of pounds.”

He added: “Do not bin the letter.”
